Zagreb, Croatia (June – October 2015)

Participants of the workshop will question the connection between community and monuments through an ethnographic study of public commemorative practices engaged with the monuments within the region of the City of Zagreb. The workshop is intended for post-graduate students of ethnology and cultural anthropology and will be led by SF:ius in collaboration with Dr. sc. Sanja Potkonjak and Dr. sc. Nevena Škrbić Alempijević from the Department for Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Philosophy Faculty in Zagreb University. The results of the research will be published.

Niš, Serbia (September 2015)

Participants in this three day workshop of visits to relevant local sites (the monument on Bubanj, the new display at the concentration camp, Crveni krst, and the nearby monuments by Bogdan Bogdanović in Knjaževac and Leskovac) will become acquainted with the Docomomo International methodology of classifying objects and discuss appropriate ways of documenting memorial complexes and individual monuments. The workshop is intended for undergraduate and graduate students and will be led by the independent researcher, Dubravka Sekulić in collaboration with a team from Group of architects.

Dubrovnik, Croatia (June 2016)

The workshop will seek to devise non-revisionist strategies for the valorisation and preservation of NOB heritage, taking into consideration current needs and opportunities in culture. The practises of protecting the heritage of NOB monuments will be discussed through five themes: 1) valorisation and promotion (modalities/mechanisms, current status, future visions), 2) policy making – legislative issues, 3) conservation strategies, 4) conservation practises, 5) theory and ethics. The workshop is intended for undergraduate students and it will be led by Dr. Sandra Uskoković, University of Dubrovnik in collaboration with SF:ius. The students will receive ECTS points for their participation.

Ljubljana, Slovenia (October 2016)

This workshop questions the state of partisan monuments in Slovenia with a comparative analysis of the situation of other former Yugoslav Republic countries. As a part of the program, the participants will visit all relevant sites in the vicinity of Ljubljana. The workshop is intended for graduate students and will be lead by a team from Moderna Galerija.

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Hercegovina (February 2017)

The workshop is concerned with the contemporary musealization and memorialisation of socialism, with a tour of the History Museum of Bosnia and Hercegovina. It is intended for students and will be lead by a team from the History Museum of Bosnia and Hercegovina.
